Finally Liberated!
Turns out, the whole vacation wasn’t completely lost. Alan has only one residual medical issue outstanding, and that’s in a holding pattern. So after testing the comfort of my driver’s seat, he realized the driving wouldn’t be a problem and he was ready to cut loose and take us on a short spin to RI to see the Blue Angels Air show. (http://www.blueangels.navy.mil) This is a terrific FREE event everyone should go see. Anyway I guess the staying home sick thing was getting old for Alan-or is it the getting sick of getting old(er) thing? So he and Bev came up and finally liberated me from my winter hibernation and gave me washing and cleaning, loaded the goodies, and off we went-surprisingly without my jeep buddy tagging along. However, as usual, we were a day late getting started and didn’t make the early bird entry and score a primo parking spot. (Maybe Alan is also getting sick of the same old client things?) So instead of being close to the runway where the show takes place, we were parked on the side of the Armory with only a partial view. Actually, after reviewing the situation, we all realized that the general RV parking was even closer to the runway than the reserved FMCA parking and Alan wouldn’t have to pay for all the group meals that he can’t eat anymore! (pancake breakfasts, dunkin donuts, pizza dinner, ice cream and cakes for desert.) Anyway, I bet the other coaches in the general RV parking would love to have such a fine and rare specimen of an RV as me join them if we were to come back to the show another year. Alan says It would have to be as part of a longer visit, so he & Bev could take the Jeep and explore Newport and the islands, and maybe even find some beach off-roading to keep my Jeep buddy in practice. Now the weather didn’t exactly cooperate, so Friday was an open day. Rather than hang around and lavish more care and feeding on me, Bev and Alan walked across the way and took to the High Speed Ferry to Martha’s Vineyard for the day. ( http://www.vineyardfastferry.com ) Over $80 bucks round trip for two people (no vehicles allowed-but I can’t imagine how much they would charge me!) plus the bar, lunch and jewelry tab at the Vineyard. Not exactly a bargin, but they tell me the weather and scenery was better over there! Sat night, their friends Julio and Shelly paid us a visit. After some prime time (wine, munchies and a little Sun) on my roof top deck, they left me and went to a nearby Seafood place called “Tavern by the Sea” that Bev discovered on the Web. ( http://www.tavernbytheseaRI.com ) The food was terrific and the patio dining was just the ticket. Check it out if you are in the area. Sunday, the weather forecast was supposed to be good for flying, but the weatherman was less than half right again. A low ceiling in the morning meant a long wait (with a few Bloody Marys for breakfast) and watching some small and low flying warm-up acts until the Blue Angels finally appeared late in the day. Even I could tell the show wasn’t nearly as good as the one a few years ago. After waiting out the traffic we started home. Somehow even with multiple navigation tools we still managed to get off course. I think Bev might be in danger of being demoted from chief navigator. I also think she might not care! Alan better get my Blue eyes system fixed properly before we go anywhere unfamiliar! A good, short trip to get the season started. Unfortunately, no other trips are scheduled yet, so I hope this outing will inspire my pilot and copilot to take me to some new places this year. I really don’t want to be a garage queen!
